Tesla is recalling 63,619 Cybertrucks in the United States and another 2,629 in Canada due to a problem with the front parking lights. According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Transport Canada’s counterpart, the lighting intensity of these lights is too powerful.
Excessively bright front lighting can blind other road users
In Canada, 2,629 models are affected by the recall
Tesla is currently rolling out an over-the-air update.
The problem is that the vehicle’s control software could command the parking lights to exceed the maximum permitted intensity. Transport Canada points out that “Canadian regulations specify a maximum brightness for parking lights.”
Obviously, as Transport Canada points out, “Parking lights that are too bright could confuse other road users and increase the risk of accidents.”
In Canada, the recall affects 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks.
Tesla has been aware of the issue since October 1, when an internal inspection revealed the problem. The manufacturer is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect and has not received any warranty claims from its customers.
Tesla will update the vehicle’s software over the air to resolve the issue. It’s one of the cool things about some recalls today: the owner doesn’t have to plan a visit to a dealership.
Tesla began rolling out the update on October 9. No further action is necessary for the owners at this time. Those whose models have not yet been repaired should exercise caution.
Tesla notified its dealers of the recall on October 17. Owners will be informed starting December 13.
