Tesla launches six-seat Model Y L exclusively in the U.S.
Launch Series bundles premium features and one year of included services.
Canadian availability remains uncertain because of current supply and other constraints.
Tesla has officially added to its Model Y lineup in the U.S. with the introduction of the new six-seat Model Y L, but the larger electric SUV is not yet available to Canadian buyers. Orders have opened through Tesla’s U.S. configurator, with first customer deliveries expected in September or October.

The Model Y L debuts exclusively as a Limited Edition Premium AWD Launch Series priced from US$61,490, positioning it US$4,000 above the current Performance model. As with previous Tesla launch editions, the initial offering bundles several premium features and services.
Launch Series customers receive one year of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), one year of complimentary Supercharging, and one year of Premium Connectivity. Buyers can also select any available exterior paint colour, interior finish and wheel design in the 20-inch Uberhelix model at no extra cost.

Exclusive Launch Series details include unique exterior badging, puddle lights, suede dashboard trim, and branded door sill plates. Tesla is expected to replace the Launch Series with a regular Premium trim after the initial production run.
Designed for larger families, and to replace the outgoing Model X, the Model Y L extends the existing Model Y by approximately 18 cm, increasing overall length to 4,978 cm while maintaining a curb weight of about 4,600 lbs. The additional space enables a dedicated three-row, six-seat interior with a 2-2-2 seating arrangement.
Second-row captain’s chairs are heated, cooled, and power-folding. Third-row occupants receive heated seats, dedicated air vents, cupholders, and individual lighting. Both rear seating rows fold flat, increasing cargo capacity to up to 2,520 litres. Front-seat occupants benefit from heated and ventilated seats, powered thigh extenders, adjustable headrests, and the 16-inch central display.

Power comes from an 88-kWh battery paired with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. Tesla estimates EPA range at up to 325 miles (523 kilometres) with 19-inch wheels or 320 miles (514 kilometres) with the optional 20-inch wheels. The company also quotes a 0–60 mph (0-97 km/h) acceleration time of 4.4 seconds and a peak DC fast-charging rate of 250 kW.
Additional equipment includes Tesla’s second-generation suspension with continuous variable damping, an 18-speaker audio system, a front bumper camera with an integrated washer, RGB ambient lighting, and Vehicle-to-Load capability using the supplied adapter.
Canada’s absence from the launch is strange. Although Tesla’s current supply strategy means it is no longer exporting U.S.-built vehicles to Canada due to tariff-related challenges, the Model Y L is also assembled in China. The current base RWD Model Y is apparently sourced from China… We suppose it’s only a matter of time before the Model Y L will become available in Canada.
