We can expect several new models to be added to the list of vehicles that aren’t imported into Canada.
Some Tesla models have increased by as far as 21 %.
Canada is engaged in a trade war with its biggest ally, due to the Trump administration’s decision to make its global trading partners pay. Amid these new tariff policies, the North American automotive industry is being heavily impacted by government measures on both sides of the border.

Eventually, we can expect to see some models disappear from the Canadian automotive landscape – and/or the US as well –, as the application of Canadian tariffs on vehicles assembled in the United States will artificially inflate the MSRP of these models in Canada. This was already evident at the end of April on Tesla’s Canadian website.
Yet, in mid-April, Tesla had introduced a series of substantial discounts on both sides of the border, notably on its Cybertruck pickup, whose sales figures have been disastrous in recent weeks. At that time, there was talk of a price reduction of nearly $17,000 on the Foundation Series version.
In Canada, some Tesla models are seeing their entry prices skyrocket, by as much as 21% in the case of the Cybertruck AWD ($139,990) and the Cyberbeast ($167,990). The Model X AWD now costs $140,990, while its Plaid variant is even more expensive at $161,990 — both seeing price hikes of $19,000 due to the tariffs.
It’s also worth noting that Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk — now heavily involved in the management of U.S. government affairs — were already under scrutiny from Canadian government authorities.
For bargain hunters (!), the Tesla vehicle with the smallest price increase is the Model 3 Performance sedan, whose MSRP jumped from $79,990 to $89,990 overnight. In this specific case, that’s a 12.5% price increase. In fact, Canadian motorists still eyeing a Tesla may be able to snag a “pre-tariff” model whose MSRP hasn’t yet been impacted by the trade war. Chances are these in-stock models will sell faster than those ordered online once the tariffs fully kick in.
