We take a look at the 10 best-selling SUVs in 2018 in Canada as of December 1st with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V set to battle it out until the very end for the top spot.
We’ve known for a while now that buyers are moving away from passengers cars and heading towards SUVs. The trend was quite apparent in 2018 with passengers cars showing a 9.6% drop in sales.
The light trucks category which includes sport utility vehicles, on the other hand, saw sales increase by 1.1% in what ended up being a sluggish year for sales overall.
As stated previously, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are separated by less than 200 units at the top and could switch positions depending on what happens in December. Let’s take a closer a look at the 10 best-selling SUVs so far in 2018. The percentage represents the increase or decrease in sales compared with the previous year.
Toyota RAV4 – 51,350 units sold (+6.13%)
Honda CR-V – 51,175 units sold (+7.49%)
Ford Escape – 41,191 units sold (-9.12%)
Nissan Rogue – 38,859 units sold (-3.81%)
Hyundai Tucson – 27,356 units sold (-6.11%)
Mazda CX-5 – 24,919 units sold (+5.17%)
Jeep Wrangler – 23,170 units sold (+42.59%)
Hyundai Santa Fe – 22,531 units sold (-14.84%)
Jeep Cherokee – 21,307 units sold (-1.70%)
Chevrolet Equinox – 20,313 units sold (-10.61%)
The Jeep Wrangler is certainly the star of this list with sales jumping by 42%. Not on the list is the Volkswagen Tiguan which finished in 11th position with sales increasing by 42.97%. With less than 1,000 sales separating it from the Equinox, the Tiguan could creep into the top 10 best-selling SUVs list by year’s end.
Other notable SUVs not on this list are the Tesla Model X and Nissan Qashqai. Obviously these are two very different SUVs but they can both say they saw their sales double in 2018.
Check back tomorrow when we take a look at the best-selling vehicles in Canada overall in 2018 in Canada.
