The Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 should be powered by a 382-horsepower turbo-4.
The drawings display quad tailpipes which are the giveaway.
The 302-horsepower AMG GLB 35 is already quite potent…
Mercedes-AMG is apparently preparing to launch what will be the top-dog member of the Mercedes-Benz GLB lineup. In Benz-AMG speak with a 4-cylinder engine, they are known as “45”, besting the already potent “35” versions. This bit of news comes courtesy of a recently filed patent application by Benz with the United States Patent and Trademark Office where we can see a Mercedes-Benz GLB clearly sporting the 45’s calling card.
And that tell-tale sign is the quad exhaust tips proudly fitted to both extremities of the diffuser, which seems lifted from the GLB 35. The front bumper and air ducts look almost identical to that of the 35 with possibly an extra line or two in the design. It’s a little difficult to make out the finer details in these images.
The Mercedes-AMG CLA, GLA and now GLB are all powered by the talented hand-assembled turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. It produces 382-horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque. The mill will be mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and the 4MATIC+ AWD system called AMG Torque Control. All this gear should bring the GLB 45 to 100 km/h from a standstill in just over 4.5 seconds.
Just because you need to know, there are such vehicles that bare the “45 S” moniker, such as the A and sweet CLA Shooting Brake. They sport a 415-horsepower version of the engine.
Now, about the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLB 45. It is unclear if it will arrive later this year or in 2021. For the moment, pricing for the GLB 35 has yet to be announced but we suspect it will be north of $50k meaning the GLB 45 could go above $60k.
