The right-hand drive version of the truck was shown for Australia
The American-market version should be very similar
A possible future electric version was hinted at
The 2023 Ford Ranger has been teased a couple of times already, but now, we get to see the final design, in its Australian form, at least.
The next generation of the Ford Ranger mid-size pickup has been revealed in Australia, but since this model is a global product, only small changes to the design are expected before it arrives in North America in 2022.
The truck carries a more rugged look that adopts square lines and mimics the style of the F-150 full-size pickup.
This is also accompanied by physically larger dimensions, notably the wheelbase and the track that have both been stretched by 2 inches (50 mm), which allows for a larger bed that can be equipped with a cargo management system.
At the rear, the resemblance is closer to the Maverick compact pickup, with new LED taillamps and a tailgate design that is very similar.
The interior is described by Ford as being “car-like” and it makes extensive use of soft-touch materials. The Sync4 infotainment system is displayed on either a 10.1 or an optional 12 inch screen, both mounted vertically.
The front structure was hydro-formed to add enough space in the engine bay to fit a V6 engine, which could lead to the Raptor version that enthusiasts have asked for since the last generation of Ranger arrived on the market.
This larger under-hood space will also future-proof the Ranger for future propulsion technologies, according to Ford, which hints at a future electric model, in the same vein as the F-150 Lightning.
The powertrains that were presented with the truck will not be the same we will receive in North America. The Australian version will receive a choice of a 2.0L turbocharged engine or a 3.0L Turbodiesel V6. American and Canadian trucks are expected to use the same 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder as the previous model, which will be paired with the 10-speed automatic. As mentioned previously, a future Raptor model could be added later on with a turbocharged V6 engine.
