Canadian prices have yet to be announced, but they should start in the mid-$40,000 range
The Niro EV will only be offered in two trim levels
The new model has a slightly longer range than the previous generation
Kia has revealed the pricing structure for the 2023 Niro EV in the United States, which means that we now know how much every version of the eco-friendly crossover will cost.
Starting at $40,745, the electric version will be the priciest one out of the hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, unsurprisingly.
This price tag will be offset by a long list of standard features however since the Niro EV will only be offered in two trim levels.
The entry-level model, called Wind, will be equipped with two 10,25-inch screens for the infotainment system and the instrument cluster, a wireless charging mat, a premium Harman Kardon audio system, the dual-zone automatic climate control system, heated front seats upholstered in cloth and eucalyptus-based leatherette, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. Outside, the Niro EV Wind will also feature a power liftgate, 17-inch wheels, LED headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers.
Stepping up to the $45,745 Wave version adds a sunroof, the power passenger’s seat, upgraded headlamps, a full eucalyptus leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, the automated parking system, the Highway Driving Assist 2, and the rear automatic braking. Most importantly, this version adds the bi-directional charging capacity which makes it possible to power all sorts of electric equipment, including other EVs.
Both models come standard with all of the other active safety and driver assistance technology available on Kia vehicles.
Mechanically, the 2023 Kia Niro EV is very similar to the outgoing 2022 version, with the exception of the 64,8-kWh battery, which gains 0,8 kWh over the unit used in last year’s model.
This increase in capacity, combined with a number of other changes, allows the 2023 Kia Niro EV to go 407 kilometres on a single charge, which is 22 kilometres more than the 2022 Niro.
The new battery can be charged to 80% in 43 minutes using a level-3 fast charger or a little over 6 hours when using a level-2 station.
Kia has yet to announce the prices for any version of the 2023 Niro in Canada, but it said to expect a starting price in the mid-$40,000 range, which is similar to where the 2022 model started.
