The Niro has been fully redesigned for 2023
Like the previous generation, the new Niro will be offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric form
It is expected in Canada in the coming months
Kia announced today that the 2023 Niro will be introduced on the Canadian market soon to replace the current model, which has been on sale since 2017.
Few details are known about this model as of now, but the automaker has released many pictures that show the entirely redesigned Niro and it now says to expect the first units to arrive on Canadian dealer’s lots “soon”, which probably means a few months.
On the outside, the 2023 Niro remains a compact SUV like its predecessor, but its styling is more modern and distinctive. Up front, the brand’s traditional grille stretches over the headlamps, which are placed lower in the bumper.
The most notable design cue on the new Niro is the contrasting colour band that links the roof to the rear wheel arch in a sort of arrow that points towards the rear of the SUV.
This same band terminates into the taillamps, which follow the rear window and then curve outwards in a sort of boomerang shape that is reminiscent of the new Sportage’s headlamps.
Inside, the 2023 Kia Niro shows a dashboard and center console that appear to have almost been lifted right out of the new EV6 electric car.
Kia has not revealed any details about the mechanicals or the price and specifications of the 2023 Niro in Canada, but it has confirmed that it will be offered with three powertrains to choose from, a fully electric one, a plug-in hybrid and a traditional hybrid, just like the current model.
More details are expected in the next few weeks since the automaker says the Niro will arrive on sale soon in the country.
