The Q8 e-tron is an updated e-tron SUV with a new name.
Up to 30% more range, more power, and faster charging are also part of the update.
Plug & Charge will be possible at compatible Electrify America stations.
Audi has updated its e-tron SUV for the 2024 model year by giving it more power, more range, faster charging, and a new name.
In order to clear up the confusion created by this electric SUV’s name, Audi choose to rename the e-tron to Q8 e-tron for the 2024 model year.
This will make it easier to refer to a specific model in the automaker’s lineup since all of its electric models use the e-tron nameplate. Choosing the Q8 badge also makes this SUV’s positioning at the top of the brand’s lineup easier to see.
In addition to its new name, the Q8 e-tron benefits from a number of improvements that make it more powerful, more efficient, and easier to live with in day-to-day life.
For a start, Audi optimized the battery to give it more capacity while keeping the same physical size. This has been possible due to new manufacturing processes that allow an increase in energy density.
This translates into a 23% increase in useable capacity up to 106 kWh and a faster charging rate that can reach 170 kW instead of the previous model’s 150 kW limit.
This makes it possible to charge the Q8 e-tron from 10 to 80% in about 31 minutes when using a compatible DC fast charger.
Speaking of fast charging, drivers in the United States will benefit from the plug & charge function when using Electrify America public stations, meaning the car and the charger will communicate to begin the charging process and bill the owner’s credit card automatically, without having to connect an app or setup a payment method at the charger.
Since most EV charging happens at home, Audi says the Q8 e-tron will take 6.5 hours to reach a full charge when using a 240V/80A outlet or 13 hours on a 240V/40A circuit.
To make charging easier when away from home, the electric SUV will also be supplied with a charging cable that can support both 120-volt and 240 charging.
Along with a new battery, the 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron will receive new motors that feature 14 windings instead of 12, thus increasing their efficiency and their torque output.
In terms or range, this means an increase of around 30% that leaves the Q8 e-tron Sportback with an estimated EPA range of 300 miles (483 kilometres).
Improvements to the aerodynamics due to slightly revised front and rear facias as well as new wheel designs are also responsible for the additional range.
Changes have also been made to the steering and suspension systems in order to give the Q8 e-tron a more dynamic feel out on the road. These include a quicker steering ratio, various modifications to the suspension hardware, and revised drive modes which are better differentiated.
Audi says the 2024 Q8 e-tron will arrive at dealerships across the United States this summer with a base price of $74,400 for the regular model and $77,800 for the Sportback S-Line model.
An even more dynamic and powerful SQ8 version will join the lineup at a later date, but details haven’t yet been revealed.
