The Duramax Diesel engine now makes up to 975 lb-ft of torque
LT and higher trim levels receive a new interior to go with the revised exterior styling
The 2024 Silverado HD will enter production in the first half of 2023
Chevrolet unveiled the refreshed 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD, which benefits from a restyled exterior, a brand-new interior, more technologies, and a more powerful available diesel engine.
Since the Silverado 1500 was recently modernized, it was expected that the larger HD versions would receive similar treatment for the 2024 model year.
The most apparent change is the new interior that is found in LT-grade trucks and up. The new dashboard integrates two screens: a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 13.4-inch infotainment display.
In order to modernize the interior even more, the screens use new graphics, the wireless phone charger has been reworked, more storage spaces have been created and most features have received new physical controls.
The entry-level WT and Custom trim levels will retain the previous interior with its analogue dials and smaller infotainment display.
Outside, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD adopts a revised front end which replaces the split headlamps of the current model with larger single-piece units that feature an LED daytime running light in a sort of “C” shape that follows the inside edge of the main headlamps.
Under the hood, changes are limited to the available Duramax 6.6L diesel V8 engine, which now delivers 470 horsepower and 935 lb-ft of torque through the 10-speed Allison automatic transmission, which is now standard on every model.
This transmission has improved the towing capacity of the Silverado HD equipped with the 6.6L gasoline engine up to a maximum rating of 21,600 pounds for gooseneck trailers. The diesel engine can bump this number up to 36,000 pounds.
In order to help with towing, the 2024 Silverado HD gains new technologies and improves others. Indeed, the Transparent Trailer technology can now work with gooseneck trailers and the blind-spot monitor has an increased coverage area in order to better detect obstacles when towing. The adaptive cruise control is also enhanced to better control the speed of the truck even when a trailer is attached.
The first units of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD are due to roll off the assembly lines in Michigan and Ontario starting in the first half of 2023.
