The 2026 Hyundai Kona EV will be less expensive than the 2025 model in Canada

The Hyundai Kona EV gets a lower starting price in 2026, making it the second cheapest EV on the Canadian market.

  • The electric version of the 2026 Hyundai Kona is arriving with an MSRP reduced by $2,500 compared to 2025.

  • This means a new MSRP of $43,999, the second cheapest electric vehicle on the Canadian market.

  • The equipment and mechanical components remain unchanged.

While most 2026 models are more expensive than the 2025s they replace, Hyundai Canada is going against the tide with the Kona EV.

Indeed, the brand’s smallest electric model sees its starting price decrease in 2026, further strengthening its financial advantage over its competitors.

Thus, the 2026 Hyundai Kona EV is offered at an MSRP of $43,999 and a selling price in Quebec of $46,966, which represents a $2,500 discount on the 2025 Kona EV in both cases.

This model was already one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the country, and only the new 2027 Chevrolet Bolt now has a lower starting price (MSRP of $39,999).

The Fiat 500e is less expensive in practice, and dealerships that have them in inventory are generally negotiable, but its official MSRP is higher than the Kona EV’s, at $48,885.

The Kia Niro EV, a close cousin of the Kona EV, for its part, maintains the same price structure as in 2025, which is uncommon in itself, as most vehicles at least follow inflation.

Despite the new base price, the 2026 Kona Electric is no less equipped than the 2025, and its technical sheet is identical.

As a reminder, this subcompact crossover is only offered in a single version called Preferred, to which the Trend package can be added for an additional $1,750 or the Ultimate package for $4,800.

2025 Hyundai Kona EV review: A Logical Choice for City Dwellers

A notable difference in 2026 is the absence of the N-Line Ultimate package, previously billed at $5,700, which gave the Kona EV a more dynamic style.

On the mechanical side, all Kona electrics retain their front-wheel-drive architecture, which includes a 150 kW (201 horsepower) motor and 188 lb-ft of torque as well as a 64.8 kWh battery, which allows for a range of 420 kilometers according to Natural Resources Canada.

The American market also had access to a smaller 48.6 kWh battery in the 2025 base model, but we do not know if it will return in 2026 as information regarding the new model year has still not been published south of the border.

Hyundai Canada’s decision to reduce the price of the 2026 Kona EV is undoubtedly linked to the end of federal electric vehicle subsidies as well as the decrease in provincial incentives in Quebec, which have led to lower demand for all electric vehicles in recent months.
