The 2026 Subaru Outback Will Start at $40,895 in Canada

The 2026 Subaru Outback has a significantly higher base price than before in Canada, but it makes up for it with a longer list of standard features.

  • The 2025 model began at $34,695.

  • The entry-level Convenience trim level has been retired, partly explaining this jump.

  • 2026 Outbacks will arrive at Canadian dealerships shortly, except for the Wilderness, which will be added early next year.

Subaru Canada has just announced pricing for the new 2026 Outback, and unsurprisingly, buyers will have to reach deeper into their pockets.

Indeed, the new model is $6,200 more expensive than the 2025 version when comparing the most affordable variant.

This is in part due to inflation, but also because Subaru chose to discontinue the entry-level Convenience model, which could offer a lower price thanks to a shorter feature list.

For 2026, the Touring is the new base model, with an MSRP that starts at $40,895 and a sales price, including the maximum fees, of $43,756. In exchange for its higher price, this model does bring a lot of new standard features to the Outback lineup versus the previous generation.

For example, the 2026 Subaru Outback Touring includes heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, black “all-season” soft-touch upholstery, a 10-way power driver’s seat, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 6-speaker audio system, the Driver Focus distraction mitigation system, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a wireless phone charger, a hands-free power liftgate, front and rear wiper de-icer, directional LED headlamps, and a power sunroof, among many others.

The Touring is the only 2026 Outback that doesn’t feature a turbocharged engine. Indeed, it is powered by a 2,5L Boxer four-cylinder engine that generates 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. This engine is exclusively paired with a CVT transmission and the brand’s standard Symmetrical all-wheel drive system with X-Mode. Subaru claims fuel consumption figures of 9.3 L/100 km in the city and 7.5 L/100 km on the highway, along with a towing capacity of 1,225 kilos (2,700 pounds).

The Limited XT trim level is the second on the list, and its MSRP of $48,195 brings a few more toys. Those include auto-dimming side mirrors with approach lighting, 19-inch alloy wheels, hybrid-cloud navigation for the infotainment system, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, leather upholstery, memory positions for the driver’s seat, an electrically-adjustable passenger seat, and heated rear seats.

The Limited XT is also the first trim level in the lineup to benefit from a turbocharged 2,4L Boxer four-cylinder engine that delivers 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via a high-torque Lineartronic CVT and the Symmetrical all-wheel drive system. Subaru expects this powertrain to achieve fuel consumption figures of 11.0 L/100 km in the city and 8.3 L/100 km on the highway. The towing capacity is set at 1,588 kilos (3,500 pounds).

Next is the Wilderness, the most off-road-focused variant of the new Outback. This model, priced from $49,195, adopts a more rugged design with a unique front grille, copper accents, hexagonal LED foglamps, different plastic cladding, a matte black hood decal, revised front and rear bumpers, unique 17-inch alloy wheels wearing all-terrain tires, and matte black exterior mirrors.

The Outback Wilderness does have improved capabilities to go along with its look, thanks to underbody protection plates, a shorter turning circle, an off-road suspension with adaptive dampers, a bi-mode X-Mode function for the all-wheel drive system, and a shorter ratio for the rear differential.

Inside, the Outback Wilderness is a mix of the Touring and Limited XT trims. For example, it doesn’t feature leather upholstery or a memory feature for the driver’s seat, nor a power passenger’s seat, but it does have heated rear seats, navigation, a 360-degree camera system, and the Harman Kardon sound system. Distinctive features include copper and yellow accents as well as a geometric pattern to the black upholstery.

Towing capacity is the same as the Limited XT, but fuel consumption is somewhat harmed, with advertised figures of 11.3 L/100 km in the city and 8.8 L/100 km on the highway.
