Toyota will introduce a Special Edition to mark the occasion.
Only 4,040 will be available for the 2023 model year in the US, 400 in Canada.
The livery is 80s fantastic.
The Toyota 4Runner easily falls into the category of legendary off-roaders. It started out as an SUV version of the Toyota pickup in the early 1980s and has evolved somewhat. Despite being one of the “oldest” new vehicles for sale, it remains one of the best at doing what it does best.
And that’s being an adventure partner. More than 4 million 4Runners have been sold since 1983 and to celebrate, Toyota USA has introduced a new 40th Anniversary Special Edition. The 40th is based on the SR5 Premium and will feature bronze-colored 17-inch alloy wheels, a body-color-matching TOYOTA heritage grille, and a bronze-colored 40th Anniversary exterior tailgate badge. It will be offered in three colors: White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Barcelona Red Metallic.
Undoubtedly, the heritage graphics package is the 40th Anniversary Special Edition’s coolest feature. The retro-inspired yellow/orange/red body graphics are inspired by Toyota’s illustrious success in off-road racing.
The cabin will include bronze-colored cross-stitch shift knob and seat stitching, 40th Anniversary floormats, and a 40th Anniversary logo on the Black SofTex-trimmed seats.
Only 4,040 Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition will be built and sold in the US for the 2023 model year.
