Volkswagen extends Basecamp accessory line to Atlas Cross Sport, boosting SUV personalization options.
Developed with Air Design, the line features custom body cladding and unique off-road wheels.
While U.S. availability is confirmed, the line is also expected to roll out in Canada.
In a move aimed at catering to the growing demand for rugged and personalized SUVs, Volkswagen has extended its Basecamp accessory line to include the Atlas Cross Sport models. Originally launched in 2020 for the Atlas, the accessory line offers custom body-cladding elements and unique off-road-inspired wheels, enhancing both the appearance and versatility of these SUVs. This article takes an in-depth look at the expanded Basecamp accessory line, its design inspiration, features, and potential availability in Canada.
Broadening the Scope
The extension of the Basecamp accessory line reflects Volkswagen of America’s strategy to appeal to a wider customer base. Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy at Volkswagen of America, confirms that as consumer and dealer interest in rugged-looking SUVs intensifies, Volkswagen aims to offer more personalization options. The Basecamp line now not only includes the Atlas but also embraces the Atlas Cross Sport and even offers a touchpoint with the Taos Basecamp styling program.
Unveiling the Features
Owners of Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models can look forward to an array of features in the Basecamp package. Specifically, the styling package offers a two-tone textured black and satin silver front valance, textured matte black flares with integrated splash guards, satin silver side door rocker panels, and a satin silver rear valance that accommodates trailer hitches. Notably, the package is not recommended for models without a trailer hitch and is incompatible with R-Line trims and Peak Edition models. An exclusive addition for full Atlas Basecamp kits includes front quarter-panel-mounted Basecamp badges, which are not available separately and are not included for the Atlas Cross Sport models.
A Note on Canadian Availability
While the press release does not explicitly mention the Basecamp accessory line’s availability in Canada, the previous introduction of similar kits in the country suggests a likely rollout for Canadian consumers as well.
