The specially adapted tires generate far less road noise.
The sidewalls are reinforced to cope with the EV’s immense torque.
The EV market is growing and premier tire companies like Hankook are designing tires specifically suited to meet these vehicles. Electric vehicles are extremely quiet and capable of generating enormous instantaneous torque – these unique characteristics require equally unique tires. Hankook has created the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev tire to meet these requirements and it will be offered as original equipment on the magnificent Audi e-tron GT.
For a performance EV such as the e-tron GT, a tire needs to also provide low rolling resistance on top of high lateral stiffness. This seemingly impossible task was made by possible thanks to Hankook’s optimized vulcanization process. Reinforced with bead-packing technology, the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev tire is 3 decibels quieter, capable of handling high stresses all the while promoting a comfortable ride.
“The development of an e-tire is particularly complex,” explains Moonhwa Hong, Vice President of Hankook Tire’s OE Development Department. “Therefore, it is now paying off that we expanded research in this area early. Our company is now represented on several premium models in the electric sports car segment, including the Audi e-tron GT, and has established a very good position in this segment overall.”
