The Electra Concept is a tall sedan, hence crossover and not SUV.
We were all wondering when GM would revive the name…
It was really only a matter of time before GM dug into its vast repertoire of nameplates and revived the Electra moniker. A more perfect name for a classy, innovative electric vehicle we cannot think of. The Buick Electra Electric Crossover Concept is exactly that as it’s anything but a crude SUV.
The Electra, which was revealed at the 2020 Beijing Motor Show is a design exercise that features butterfly wing doors (which can be opened via facial recognition) on a body that is more Grand Touring than SUV but with a distinctively tall beltline. The cabin is extremely spacious and ingress and egress are impossibly easy thanks to the lack of traditional A/B pillars. The interior is a spaceship-like cradle without a traditional dashboard, which is replaced by a massive curved display.
This concept is made possible thanks to GM’s innovative and advanced Ultium battery technology. The front and rear high-performance motors generate a maximum power of 435 kW or 583 horsepower, which enable the Electra to reach 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. The WLPT-rated range is of 660 kilometres.
For the moment, the Buick Electra Electric Crossover Concept is only a sneak peek at Buick’s vision for a new intelligent electric future.
