The Buick Encore GX, a different model, remains.
The “original” Encore was launched for the 2013 model year.
The Buick Encore was a rare entry in the very small premium SUV segment when it launched in 2012. Over the last decade, it underwent very few notable changes beyond a facelift. The last few years have seen its trim variants drop considerably down to only one with the option of FWD or AWD. Its demise was planned.
At the very least, GM and Buick knew what they were doing. For 2020, they launched the Encore GX, not a trim, but a very different model. Since then, sales of the Encore have plummeted. And by the third quarter of 2022, the Encore’s plug will officially be pulled.
According to GMAuthority, barely more than 20,000 Encores were sold in 2021 compared to nearly 42,000 the previous year. Meanwhile, Encore GX deliveries skyrocketed from 44,841 in 2020 to 71,247 in 2021.
The final Buick Encores will roll off GM’s Bupyeong factory in South Korea. The extra capacity will be filled by the Chevrolet Trailblazer, a convincing small SUV.
