The unveiling of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup truck this week certainly made news in the electric automotive world. Chevrolet‘s entry into the electric pickup arena is great news for consumers hoping to move to the electrified side. After Rivian, Ford, Tesla and even GMC with its Hummer pickup (to name a few), Chevrolet should in principle capture a good share of the market.
At least, if the popularity of the RST First Edition livery is anything to go by, consumers have answered the call, according to General Motors COO Marry Barra, who revealed to Bloomberg that this version of the pickup sold out in just 12 minutes!
At the time of writing, the number of RST First Edition deliveries remains unknown, but if other “first editions” of new car models are any indication, the number shouldn’t be too high.
Consumers interested in Chevrolet’s first electric truck have nothing to worry about, however, as it is still possible to reserve a copy, even if all First Edition liveries have been reserved. The Silverado RST First Edition is expected in the fall of 2023 at the earliest, while the WT (for Work Truck) livery is expected to hit the market in the spring of 2023, a few months before this ultra-luxury version. Other liveries of the pickup are instead expected in the summer of 2024, as a 2025 model. Among other things, off-road enthusiasts will be able to get behind the wheel of a Trail Boss version of the same truck.
It’s safe to say that there’s a lot of consumer interest in this new electric pickup niche, especially since selling out all the first deliveries of a pickup truck that starts at $106,695 in the U.S. and $119,948 in Canada in such a short period of time is quite a feat.
In fact, Ford’s recent announcement that it will double its production of F-150 Lightning pickups confirms this. If consumers show this much interest in the electric Silverado, Chevrolet can already congratulate itself for going electric.
