The Death of Another Automotive Icon Looms: No More Nissan GT-R After 2025?

Nearly 17 years have passed since the R35 Nissan GT-R was launched

The introduction of the R35 Nissan GT-R pleased all driving enthusiasts back in 2007 for the 2008 model year. It showed that the Japanese automaker was in tune with its fanbase and its decision to finally launch a GT-R in Nort America may have partially been influenced by the popularity of the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Nissan’s Future Electric GT-R Will have Solid-State Batteries

The R35 GT-R is all but unchanged since its introduction some 17 years ago though, over the years, a NISMO version was added as were more horsepower. As it stands, the twin-turbocharged 3.8L V6 produces 565-horsepower while the NISMO doles out 600 horsepower. As we know, all good things must come to an end.

We’ve known that the R35 Nissan GT-R’s days were numbered but now, according to The Truth About Cars, 2025 may be its final model year in its current form. The story reports that Nissan will assemble only 1,500 of which a fifth will be earmarked for the NISMO treatment. It is possible that Nissan will take this opportunity to highlight the passing of the R35 will special details and various upgrades however nothing has officially been shared at the moment.

As we also know, the electrification of the automobile seems inevitable, and this is likely what will happen to the GT-R as it is expected to return with some form of electrification and possibly as the R36.

If this scenario turns out to be true, we can expect more information on the final and potentially next GT-R between now and year’s end.
