- Like the Discover, there will be more Defender versions.
- The new addition will likely be a compact urban SUV.
Within the Range Rover and Land Rover groups, most nameplate provide buyers with a pair of variations. Think of the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport and the Discovery and the Discovery Sport. The Defender family already holds the 90 and the 110, and although rumours of the 130are dead, it seems as though Land Rover intends to introduce a smaller model within this sub-group.
The new and hotly anticipated Land Rover will be hitting our local roads very soon, and we’re looking forward to spending more time with it. But before it even gets here, there are rumours that a smaller compact Defender might join the family in time. Small urban SUVs, especially from luxury brands, are all the rage. BMW has the X1 and X2, Audi has the Q3, Mercedes-Benz, the GLA and GLB, and so on. With this in mind, it only makes sense that Land Rover join in. This trend is in fact growing with the upcoming Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport.
This new smaller Land Rover Defender would slide in below the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque and, in the process, could lose some qualities inherent to the brand’s heritage. Even so, if they do it right, it could quickly become a best-seller.
