The concept is based on the new 2022 Expedition Timberline series.
It’s got 12.6 inches of ground clearance thanks to custom Fox dampers.
The vehicle is equipped with Ford’s Outfitter collection of dealer-available accessories.
Here’s more proof that the Overlanding- and safarying-everything trend is well and alive. Ford’s latest concept, the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid, shows just well-prepared anyone could be if they truly wanted to go off-grid.
The Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid starts out as a new 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline. It features a high-output 440 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine, a considerable 10.6 inches of ground clearance, and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler AT tires.
“The Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept provides a futuristic view of how family adventurers can potentially get even more out of an Expedition Timberline, including the absolute best mobile basecamp,” said Robert Varto, program manager of the concept.
The Off-Grid Concept gains serious off-road cred with its custom FOX Performance Elite Series 2.5-inch shocks with Dual Speed Compression adjusters and remote reservoirs front and rear – they alone add a further 2 inches of ground clearance. As well, the concept rolls on cool 17-inch Method Race Wheels with Bead Grip technology shod with 35-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires. Other goodies include a pair of Rigid light bars.
What makes the concept truly off-grid-capable are the Thule Tepui Explorer tent with crossbars, Overland Vehicle Systems’ Nomadic 180-degree awning, and a Wild Land portable privacy room shower. Hitched behind the Expedition is a Turtleback Expedition Series Trailer. It’s designed to hold additional gear such as a two-burner propane stove, propane tank, a deep-well sink, a pair of drop-down tables, a 42-gallon water tank, and a six-gallon water heater. If you’re really not in a rush to return home, it can also include a refrigerator and a 100-watt solar panel.
The Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept’s cabin is fitted with an EZ STAK custom aluminum dual storage drawer unit. Over it is a custom Luno camping mattress with room for two.
The Off-Grid concept will be on display this weekend at Overland Expo East at Oak Ridge Estates in Arrington, Virginia. It will reappear at the SEMA show in Las Vegas in early November.
