This is the count so far since the Lightning was revealed about 12 hours ago.
This was enough to jump Ford’s shares by 3% in premarket trading.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is fully electric.
Ford’s F-150 pickup is the American auto industry’s poster boy. As the best-selling truck and vehicle in the country for decades, it serves as a gauge for consumer interests and desires. And telling by the 20,000+ reservations already made for the all-new and all-electric F-150 Lightning, they look to be ready to leave petrol behind, or nearly.
Last night, Ford revealed what may eventually be looked on as a pivotal turning point in American Automotive history. According to CNBC, reservations for the electric Ford F-150 Lightning opened at the same time and, in exchange for a $100 deposit, potential buyers got a spot on the list.
“I am looking at this vehicle as a test for adoption for electric vehicles,” Ford CEO Jim Farley told reporters at the vehicle’s unveiling Wednesday night. “We should all watch very carefully how this does in the market.”
So far, more than 1 million people have reserved a Tesla Cybertruck. In contrast, however, it was revealed in November of 2019. If the Lightning’s reservation trend carries on, it should reach that number in less time.
