The Hyundai 45 Is An EV For The Masses

Hyundai is serious about launching an EV in the 45 to rival the likes of Volkswagen and its ID.3

  • Camo’d Hyundai 45 test mules have been spotted on the road.

  • The 45 will introduce Hyundai’s E-GMP (electric-global modular platform).

  • Could be ready for the first quarter of 2021.

The Hyundai 45 Concept broke cover at last fall’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The innovative exterior design mixes retro-cool elements with extreme modernism. This is because it is a nod to the company’s past, specifically the Hyundai Pony Concept Car that was revealed 45 years ago. The Hyundai 45 is a far more evolved car than the Pony however. It’s an EV and it’s coming fast.

Hyundai 45 Electric Vehicle Concept Previews Next-Gen Hyundai Design and Tech

Spy shots of Hyundai 45 test mules were shared by the Koreancarblog and by simply looking at the cars, one can spot not only the similarities with the 45 Concept but with the VW ID.3’s overall shape and size.

As the first vehicle to be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP (electric-global modular platform), the 45 will be available with dual electric motors. A larger more powerful unit will be fitted to the rear while a smaller motor will find its way upfront.

It seems as though the car will be ready for the market in the first quarter of 2021 for the KDM, no word yet when or if it will be marketed in North America. Remember, the ID.3 is not planned for the US and only potentially coming to Canada.
