The Hyundai Kona N To Get Veloster N Powertrain

  • It will have a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine and an 8-speed N DCT transmission.

  • Henceforth, it will be known as the KonaN.

  • And there are more “N” Hyundais coming in 2021.

The Hyundai Kona N was never really a secret. Nor was the powertrain selection. But, it’s nice to know that Hyundai hasn’t backed out from making an ultra-high-performance of its extremely popular Kona SUV.

Details for the moment are limited to what is written here. If our assumptions are correct, the Kona N will get 275 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque from the THETA turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine currently found in the Veloster N. Power will be sent to the front wheels (although we wouldn’t put it past Hyundai to surprise all with an AWD system…) via an 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, aka, the N DCT.

“As N brand’s first ‘hot SUV’, KONA N will offer plenty of versatility and driving thrills that N-thusiasts have come to expect from the brand. You can take this vehicle anywhere—from road to the track,” said Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand Management and Motorsport Subdivision at Hyundai Motor Company.

The Hyundai Kona N will, like all other N vehicles, feature bespoke features related to high-performance driving, both inside and out.

Hyundai will share more in the coming weeks.
