The Jensen Interceptor will be Reborn as a V8-Powered Track-Only Supercar

• The Jensen name hasn’t been used on a production car since 2002.

• The company which currently holds the brand’s rights is known for restoring old Jensens and selling them as new cars.

• The upcoming Jensen Interceptor GTX will be a new model initially made for track use only, with possible road-going versions at a later date.

Almost 25 years after it made its last new car, Jensen is getting ready to launch the Interceptor GTX, a brand-new model that will be destined for track use only, at least at first.

Jensen was a small British automaker that manufactured sports cars between the 1920s and the end of the 1980s.

One of the best-remembered products of this company was the Interceptor, a four-seat grand tourer that was powered by Chrysler V8 engines and featured several technological advancements, including available all-wheel drive and a mechanical antilock braking and traction control system.

Sixty years after the launch of the original Interceptor and 25 years after a failed revival plan involving the S-V8, the company which owns the rights to the Jensen brand is planning to unveil the Interceptor GTX.

Few details are known at the moment, but the Interceptor GTX is said to be a track-only supercar that could lead to road-going versions later on, if customer demand is sufficient.

This track car should be powered by a supercharged V8 engine and feature a body and chassis made entirely of aluminum.

While the previous Jensen cars used engines sourced from other automakers, it seems the GTX’s engine might be developed in-house.

The company also stated that the Interceptor GTX will offer a “fully analogue driving experience”, which hints at the possibility of a manual transmission, although this hasn’t been confirmed.

The few teaser pictures available at the moment seem to show a fastback design, not too dissimilar to the Audi e-Tron GT, along with a full-width rear lamp bar and a carbon fibre rear diffuser.

Jensen International Automotive (JIA), the company behind this project, hasn’t set a date for the launch of the Interceptor GTX, but it seems this could be done before the end of 2026.

Before embarking on this project, JIA restored older Jensen models and fitted them with new powertrains before selling them as new cars, so they are not completely new to automotive production.
