The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS was unveiled today at the Frankfurt Motor Show and represents the future of the German manufacturer.
“A milestone on the way to the future of Mercedes-Benz” is how the carmaker labels their new concept, the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS. It certainly wants us to be part of this future.
The first thing we notice is the design of the car, so elegant, so futuristic, so luxurious. It could easily pass as a future generation of the S-Class. Mercedes-Benz took the Progressive Luxury design philosophy of the EQ family and molded it into what they call “one bow”.
On the outside, a few things are worth nothing. The “lightbelt” is one of them. A line of light going all around the car to make the colour division pop and that blends into the front grille and headlights perfectly.
Another gem is the DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps. To quote Mercedes, they have “two holographic lens modules, integrated into the continuous 360-degree exterior lightbelt.” They also surely help with the futuristic look of the concept. While we’re on the front of the car, the logo is fitted with 229 illuminated stars, while the grille gets 188 individual LEDs.
Inside, Mercedes-Benz says they were inspired by luxury yachts to create their “modern luxury” vision of the future. Sustainable materials were used in the cabin like high-quality DINAMICA microfibre, native figured maple trim made from recycled PET bottles. Furthermore, the Vision EQS has artificial leather, which Mercedes states is similar to Nappa leather. Even the headliner is ecofriendly and made of a high-quality textile “created by adding a quantity of recycled “ocean waste” plastic.”
The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS is an all-wheel drive fully electric vehicle. Its power comes from an around 100kWh battery capable of an output of more than 350 kW (469 hp) and a torque of about 760 Nm (560 lb-ft). With this, the Vision EQS will sprint to 100 km/h in under 4.5 seconds and will have a range of up to 700 km according to WLTP.
