MINI has always been about the clever use of space.
The Urbanaut is an electric autonomous people mover.
Its interior can go from car to living-room in a few simple steps.
MINI has drawn up its latest interpretation of interior space where occupants will not only be taken to their destination but will be able to relax in a cool and functional cabin. In true MINI form, the Vision Urbanaut is far smaller than its interior dimensions and volume suggest.
The MINI brand’s roots are steeped in the efficient use of space. Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design explains: “The MINI brand has always stood for ‘Clever Use of Space’. In the MINI Vision Urbanaut, we extend private space far into the public realm, creating completely new and enriching experiences,”
These experiences, or what MINI calls “MINI Moments” and there are three curated ones. They are “Chill”, “Wanderlust” and “Vibe” and each theme transforms the car into these moods or settings. The Vision Urbanaut was designed from the inside out ensuring that living space and comfort are at the forefront. In fact, designers used floor plans to create la cabin’s layout.
The one space with four seats can be configured in numerous ways. The front seats can rotate towards the rear and when desired, the dashboard actually lowers to create a comfy seating corner. The seats can also be folded into a daybed and for the “Street Balcony” configuration, the windscreen can be opened upwards.
The exterior is very minivan and MINI at once with its wheels pushed to the very corners of the body. The MINI Vision Urbanaut features a fully-electric powertrain and automated driving functions.
Finally, the Vision Urbanaut can be accessed via smart devices and adapt to personalized profiles and it uses sustainable materials throughout its interior.
