Ford announced a new division during this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise, Ford Icons. One of the model in that new division will be the upcoming 100% electric Mustang-inspired SUV.
The highly anticipated all-electric Ford Mustang-inspired SUV would be unveiled next November, according to a The Detroit Bureau article. The publication talked with a manufacturer’s representative who confirmed that the crossover that many already call “Mach-E” would be presented in November, probably at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Californian autoshow opens the North American car show season, following the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
This new and first utility vehicle inspired by the American ponycar will also be under a new banner created from scratch by the manufacturer. Dubbed Ford Icons, this division of the American group will bring together the most iconic models of the brand and as the Ford Mustang is definitely part of this special category, the electric crossover that will result is also expected to join the party. Ford will also include the future Bronco as well as the Raptor to this handpicked group.
“We’re rallying the company around the iconic products. We have to make sure they’re around for another 55 years,” said Amy Marentic, director, regional product line management – Ford Icons who, of course, referred to the history of the Ford Mustang and its first appearance at the New York World Fair in 1964.
Dave Pericak, former director of the Ford Performance division, will handle the Ford Icons division from now on. He reiterated the importance of the Mustang in the history of the brand: “These vehicles are the face of the Ford Motor Co.,” he added.
The unveiling of this first performance electric vehicle for Ford is highly anticipated and it’s a safe bet that its integration into this Ford Icons division could be beneficial for the first years of its commercialization.
