The Next-Generation Mitsubishi RVR Might be on the Way for 2023

Still one of the brand’s best-sellers, the Mitsubishi RVR will be replaced in just over a year

  • The RVR, aka ASX and Outlander Sport, is one of the oldest new vehicles on sale in North America.

  • Production is ongoing since 2010 and was facelifted for 2020.

  • The new RVR will likely resemble the Outlander.

The Mitsubishi RVR launched with a bang, a good one, nearly 12 years ago. It provided efficient and entertaining transportation and happened to be affordable and good-looking. The small SUV was updated for 2020 after a decade with few changes and now, it seems, an all-new generation is on its way.

2020 Mitsubishi RVR Review: Waiting For The Next Round

Despite remaining an extremely popular SUV in numerous areas, the RVR’s competition quickly surpassed it – the Mitsubishi’s age has become nearly impossible to mask no matter how big the touchscreen has become.

According to Carscoops, a Mitsubishi representative let slip that an all-new generation of the ASX/RVR/Outlander Sport is in the works and should be revealed in early 2023. Whether this means we’ll see the new SUV in 2022 ahead of a 2023 launch is unclear.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Review: The People Have Spoken

Details about the new 2023 RVR are also unclear. The only lead is that the new vehicle could be the result of a shared Mitsubishi-Renault effort. The French automaker would provide the technology and assemble the vehicle, leaving Mitsubishi with the task of designing it. It stands to reason that the current all-new 2022 Outlander will serve as inspiration.
