The total investment is more than $11 million.
NYC plans to install a further 275 fast chargers in 2022.
New York city’s municipal fleet of vehicles is the largest in the US. With more than 30,000 vehicles currently at work for the metropolis, it could be said that 184 Ford Mustang Mach-Es is barely a drop in the bucket. Even so, the addition of the Mach-E GT to the fleet is important.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is the First EV to Pass Michigan State Police Tests
It’s not the first time however that NYC has attempted to furnish its fleet with EVs. At one point, they planned to convert the BMW i3 into a cruiser but that didn’t quite work out. The city is also looking into purchasing some 250 Tesla Model 3s for police duty but the deal is not yet done.
What is confirmed is that the NYPD will get $11.5 million worth of Ford Mustang Mach-E GT. The GT is notable for its 270+ miles of range, AWD configuration, and power to the tune of 480 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque.
Unlike the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model 3, the Mustang Mach-E GT Police Pilot was introduced by Ford last September and will be manufactured by the Blue Oval. According to The Drive, the Mach-E performed “ok” in the Michigan State Police’s annual testing of purpose-built police vehicles. Clearly, ok is good enough for the NYPD.
