The Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 Recharge Win AJAC’s 2022 Canadian Green Car of the Year Awards

The fact that the Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 Recharge are very similar, and winners is no coincidence

  • Both are their respective automakers’ first full EV offerings.

  • Incidentally, both the Volvo and the Polestar share structural and mechanical components.

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), the nation’s association of professional journalists, has voted on the greenest vehicles of the year and has awarded the 2022 Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 Recharge as the Canadian Green Car and Utility of the Year.

2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor First Drive Review: A Volume Move

This is essentially a double-win for Geely Holding Group which owns both Volvo and Polestar. From the onset, Polestar has only sold electrified vehicles however the 2 is its first mass-produced EV. Its underpinnings including the battery and electric motors are shared with Volvo’s first all-electric effort in the XC40 Recharge.

Both have garnered plenty of positive press from automotive professionals (including we at Motor Illustrated who happen to be AJAC members) and clearly most appreciate these vehicles.

The Polestar 2 is a premium 5-door hatchback-cum-crossover alternative that blends a dynamic driving experience with familiar design cues. The Volvo XC40 Recharge, on the other hand, is a full-fledged small luxury SUV with surprising performance in an extremely attractive package.
