The story of the 13th generation of the world’s best-selling car is about to begin with the presentation of a Toyota Corolla concept at the Japan Mobility Show.
The concept previews the 13th generation of the Toyota Corolla
It features a more advanced form of electrification than hybrid alone
The next-generation Toyota Corolla is expected for 2027
A new Corolla is always a major event. Why? Simple: this is the world’s best-selling car line, with more than 50 million units sold. As part of the Japan Mobility Show, Toyota will showcase a concept that serves as a preview for the upcoming 13th-generation Corolla. The timing couldn’t be better. By unveiling the concept in 2025, the production version should appear during 2026 — coinciding perfectly with the Corolla’s 60th anniversary.

“To You, Toyota”
This concept, introduced through the “To You, Toyota” campaign, sets the stage for a major transformation of Toyota’s iconic compact. At first glance, it’s clear this isn’t a simple evolution of the 12th generation: it’s a complete redesign that injects a level of sportiness rarely seen on a Corolla.
The first impression is that of a sleeker, sharper car — halfway between a sedan and a four-door coupé. The proportions are far more dynamic, with a shorter hood and a more aggressive stance.
From the side, a rising beltline and streamlined silhouette echo the brand’s latest electric vehicles. The front fenders feature a charging port integrated vertically beneath the mirrors, suggesting this future Corolla could be fully electric. Sculpted sides, a descending window line, and traditional door handles strike a balance between modernity and accessibility.

A Refined Take on the “Hammerhead” Design
Up front, Toyota refines its hammerhead design theme with a horizontal light signature spanning the full width of the car. Continuous LED headlights merge with vertical elements to create a serious yet futuristic look. The traditional grille disappears, replaced by a discreet lower intake in the bumper and a subtle vent at the base of the windshield to optimize airflow.

A Rear End Inspired by the IONIQ 6
The rear design follows the same philosophy of functional simplicity. A ducktail-style spoiler flows naturally from the roofline, reminiscent of the Hyundai IONIQ 6. The full-width LED taillights adopt a pixel-style pattern, and the word Corolla now appears in full lettering across the hatch, proudly emphasizing the name. The sculpted bumper, with a centrally mounted licence plate, ensures perfect visual balance.

A New Era for the Corolla
No technical details have yet been shared, but all signs point to a new, electrified generation — perhaps even a fully electric Corolla. That would be a logical step after the successful design revolution of the Prius, which reshaped how people see Toyota styling. We’re likely witnessing the dawn of the first all-electric Corolla — a true milestone in automotive history.
