Both models will have three rows of seats and be built in Kentucky.
An electric Land Cruiser concept from 2023 shows what to expect.
Both SUVs are expected to share Toyota’s electric e-TNGA platform.
A few more details have surfaced about Toyota’s plans for its Georgetown, Kentucky plant, which is in the process of retooling to transition from the production of the Lexus ES sedan to a new electric SUV.
As it turns out, it won’t only be one new EV, but two. Indeed, a source told Reuters that electric versions of the RAV4 and the Land Cruiser will be manufactured at the Kentucky facility starting next year.
This hasn’t been officially confirmed, and neither model has been unveiled, so details are few and far between, but we at least have an idea of what to expect.

Indeed, the automaker showcased a concept called Land Cruiser SE back in 2023 that might set the tone for the production version.
This concept features an angular design and the Toyota script up front in place of the brand’s traditional logo, recalling the gas-powered Land Cruiser, but similarities with its iconic namesake end there.
This means that those expecting an electric Land Cruiser to go anywhere the off-road-focused current model can are in for a disappointment, as the concept doesn’t feature an elevated ride height, all-terrain tires, or particularly aggressive approach and departure angles.
Instead, this model appears to be a slightly sporty SUV designed for on-road performance. It could perhaps be better described as an electric version of the Highlander that takes design inspiration from the Land Cruiser.
This isn’t to say that changes won’t be made before the production version is released, and the final electric Land Cruiser could be significantly more capable than what the concept suggests.

In the case of the electric RAV4, even fewer details are known, but we expect this model to be smaller than the electric Land Cruiser, even if it is also said to be a three-row model.
This should place it above the new bZ Woodland in the brand’s quickly expanding electric lineup in North America.
Like the bZ Woodland (and all current Toyota and Subaru electric vehicles), both upcoming SUVs are expected to use the e-TNGA platform, but not exactly the same version of it, as it is highly modular.
The addition of these two new electric models would significantly expand the appeal of Toyota’s lineup, as it currently only has compact and sub-compact electric models, leaving those who need a larger EV with no other option than to shop elsewhere.

By adding two three-row electric SUVs, the automaker would then benefit from gas-powered, hybrid, and fully-electric vehicles in some of the most popular segments in North America.
With production taking place in Kentucky, these models will also likely be shielded from any current or future tariffs levied by the Trump administration on imported vehicles.
Since both SUVs are expected to be launched next year, more details will likely be revealed over the coming months.
