The Volkswagen Aero B Concept Will Preview the ID.6

Volkswagen will unveil the Aero B Concept that previews the ID.6 electric sedan.

  • This concept will be unveiled in April

  • The ID.6 will replace the Passat and possibly the Arteon

  • If it is sold in North America, the production model will arrive for 2024

Volkswagen will unveil the Aero B concept, which previews the ID.6 electric sedan next month in Beijing.

This concept is an evolution of the ID.Vizzion Concept that was shown back in 2018. The related ID. Space Vizzion Concept, which is a wagon version of the ID.Vizzion sedan, could also reach production under the ID.7 name.

The ID.6 will replace the outgoing Passat as Volkswagen’s largest sedan, at least in Europe. This model could also be brought over to North America, again to replace the Passat and possibly the Arteon fastback. To be noted, the Passat name is not dead quite yet, a new generation model will be sold in Europe, but only as a wagon.

According to prototypes that have been spotted testing on German roads, the ID.6 will feature a somewhat conservative sedan style, but it could have an opening back glass that would make it a liftback.

The ID.6 will be built on the MEB platform which currently underpins the other Volkswagen electric vehicles like the ID.4. This means that it will likely use the same mechanical elements as these vehicles.

As for the concept, the powertrain hasn’t been revealed yet, but the ID.Vizzion was powered by an 82 kWh battery and 275 horsepower rear-wheel drive motor, which gave it an estimated range of 300 miles. An all-wheel drive dual motor version with 355 horsepower was said to be available and it is likely the production version will feature the same choice of configuration.

The ID.6 name is already being used in China on two SUVs, the ID.6 X and the ID.6 Crozz, which are not expected to be sold anywhere else.
