A metal artist uses the Volkswagen Type 2 bus as inspiration for his creation.
The idea is that the “Hippie van” brought people together, just like a fire can.
He’s also created a few other automotive-inspired grills.
Right down to the two-tone paint job, this metal artist/fabricator has created the coolest Volkswagen-inspired grill that will give everyone on around it warm feelings.
The Volkswagen Type 2 bus is an icon of the 1960s. In fact, it’s such a fixture in not only automotive history but pop-culture that Volkswagen will build it again as a fully-electric van. Between now and when production begins, we can all enjoy the wood-burning grill it inspired.
Mymodernmet.com found UK-based metal fabricator Danny Lyons, of Trash Metal Fabrications, and he is the creator of many amusing grills but being all about cars, we love this bus. Lyons has addressed the bus’ many unique design cues, including the multiple windows, including the split windscreen, the large front logo, and roof rack which can serve to grill many a tasty meal.

If you peruse his Instagram account, you’ll also spot a grill that is inspired by the first-generation Volkswagen Golf. He mentions in this post that he plans on making a Beetle wood-burner soon.
