Volkswagen announced that its all-new electric ID.3 hatchback will feature the innovative ID. Light concept.
The Volkswagen ID.3 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month. The new vehicle is the first one to get the new Volkswagen logo revealed at the same show and now another first is coming for it.
Indeed, Volkswagen announced that the Volkswagen ID.3 will feature the ID. Light concept. What is it? The German manufacturer says this about it: “The intelligent light concept in the interior supports the driver visually and makes communication with the ID.3 more emotional.”
The car communicates with the driver by the mean of a LED strip that runs across the cockpit. Depending on the function, the LED strip changes colour. Things like locking and unlocking, receiving a phone call or charging, to name a few, all show different light signal. Colours used are either white, blue, red, green or a mix of them.
“For all its innovativeness, ID. Light functions intuitively by using familiar colours,” says Valentina Wilhelm, User Experience Designer at Volkswagen. “This use of light, makes the vehicle more ‘personable’ and is a very simple and intuitive way of communicating.”
Voice control is also supported with the ID. Light concept. By sending a light signal, the voice control assistant indicates whether it’s responding to the driver or the front passenger.
