The Volkswagen Passat Variant R-Line Edition Is The Wagon Of Our Dreams

We all know that cars are losing to SUVs but it’s nice to see Volkswagen giving its Passat wagon all the right attention, and kit.

January’s Detroit auto show served as the launch point for the latest Volkswagen Passat sedan for North America. The Volkswagen Passat Variant R-Line is not that car. This is the Euro Passat and it’s now cooler and more desirable than ever.

North America lost the Volkswagen Passat station wagon some years ago in favour of the Tiguan, Touareg and Atlas. European markets continue to benefit from the presence of an estate variant of the Passat and for those that truly get it, VW’s has introduced an R-Line Edition that essentially includes all the best options and features you can get with the car.

Powertrains options are mouth-watering as they consist in either a 272-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-litre TSI gasoline or the 240-horsepower 2.0-litre Bi-TDI twin-turbodiesel 4-cylinder engines. 4MOTION AWD is standard as is the Group’s 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual DSG transmission.

Visually, the car earns black 19-inch alloy wheels, LED Matrix headlights, black mirror caps, roof and lovely smoked LED taillights. The Volkswagen Passat Variant R-Line Edition can be ordered in any colours as long as it’s Moonstone Grey.On the inside, the Passat gets all the good stuff once more. You’ll find are large digital instrument cluster, the huge 9.2-inch infotainment setup, Napa leather covered sport seats and more.

Only 2,000 of the Volkswagen Passat Variant R-Line Edition will be built and sold.
