Both brands are apparently contributing their well-known strengths.
This joint venture could have something to do with the $25,000 Tesla.
This is not the first time Tesla and Toyota have worked together.
To be clear, from what is known, both Tesla and Toyota are reportedly talking about bringing a new small electric SUV into this world. Both brands have developed specialties that, when combined, can only deliver a product that will not only deliver performance but that will be affordable.
This is why it could work: Tesla would, according to electrive’s story, handle software and electronics, while Toyota would contribute the actual vehicle platform. In other words, Toyota’s mass-production capabilities and Tesla’s electric drive systems would come together and create a decently agreeable, affordable, and well-assembled EV, in this case, an SUV, for the masses.
Beyond these general ideas, details on this small electric SUV are non-existent. To note, Tesla and Toyota worked together on a project way back in 2012. The result was the limited-run fully-electric Toyota RAV4.
Tesla’s Expansion Plans Could Include A Minivan And A $25,000 Car
If this joint project turns out to be real, the resulting vehicle could become, for Tesla, the $25,000 EV that was first reported last September. For Toyota, it could also become their first mass-volume EV for numerous global markets.
