Land Cruiser left North American market in 2021
Prado is the Toyota version of Lexus GX
If you’re missing the Toyota Land Cruiser, you’re not alone. The big off-roader is missed by many fans of the brand as well as buyers who want big and capable SUVs. A new report says that the Land Cruiser could be coming back to the U.S., as the new version of the Land Cruiser Prado.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a body-on-frame SUV that has been sold in most of the rest of the world since 1985. It’s smaller than the standard Land Cruiser, and you can find the model here but only with a Lexus badge. It’s the Toyota version of the Lexus GX.
Automotive News reported that its sources said Toyota was looking at bringing the Prado here as a Toyota and not just a Lexus, but that it would be badged simply “Land Cruiser” here.
That could make the Toyota body-on-frame SUV lineup a little crowded. The company already markets the similarly-sized Toyota 4Runner and the gargantuan Toyota Sequoia. That on top of its crossovers including the Highlander and Grand Highlander.
For an idea of what you could expect from a Land Cruiser Prado brought stateside, come back tonight at 8 pm eastern. That’s when Lexus is launching the first new GX model in a decade, and it is a preview of what we think will be the next Prado.
