Toyota bZ Time Attack Concept: Electrified Power Takes on SEMA 2025

At the upcoming 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, opening on November 4, Toyota will unveil its first-ever fully electric concept designed specifically for time attack competitions and hill climbs: the bZ Time Attack Concept.

  • The Toyota bZ Time Attack Concept develops 400 horsepower
    • It will be showcased at SEMA from November 4–7, 2025
    • Its design showcases cutting-edge engineering and fabrication

A Rolling Laboratory for Toyota’s Electric Technology

Created to push the limits of Toyota’s BEV engineering, this one-off concept highlights race-grade aerodynamics, motorsports suspension, and a major boost in power compared to the production model.

It’s based on the 2026 Toyota bZ AWD, which already produces 338 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds. This radical prototype serves as a showcase for Toyota’s expanding EV lineup, which will also include two new all-electric models in 2026: the bZ Woodland and the C-HR EV.

An Audacious Take on Electric Motorsports

“This year at SEMA, we wanted to explore uncharted territory,” said Marty Schwerter, Director of Operations at Toyota’s Motorsports Technical Center. “The bZ Time Attack Concept is an opportunity to learn, experiment, and demonstrate just how much potential lies within our electric platforms.”

Having crafted standout Toyota builds for SEMA for more than two decades, Schwerter’s team faced new challenges this time—balancing the heavy battery’s weight, managing cooling, integrating aerodynamics, and ensuring chassis rigidity. The goal wasn’t to build a mere showpiece, but a true performance machine, proving that electric power can shine on the track as well.

Craftsmanship Meets 3D Innovation

To bring the widebody and full aero package to life, Toyota used a hybrid fabrication method combining 3D scanning, CAD design, large-scale 3D printing, and manual finishing. Under the guidance of the Additive Manufacturing Lab in Georgetown, Kentucky, the fenders and body panels were printed at full scale and hand-reinforced for strength and precision. This approach drastically shortened development time and enabled rapid design iterations.

The result is a car lowered by six inches, with a six-inch wider track, and a comprehensive aerodynamic setup including a massive rear wing, front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser.

400 Electric Horsepower and a Race-Ready Chassis

Underneath, the bZ Time Attack Concept sits on the 2026 bZ AWD platform, whose electric motors, tuned by Toyota R&D, produce over 400 horsepower. The chassis uses TEIN coilovers, Alcon brakes with Hawk pads borrowed from Toyota’s 86 Cup and Corolla TC racing programs, and a full FIA-spec chromoly roll cage. Inside, the car features OMP HTE-R racing seats and OMP harnesses, while 19×11-inch BBS Unlimited wheels wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02 (305/30ZR19) tires provide maximum grip.

A Manifesto for Electric Performance

True to Toyota’s philosophy, every detail blends innovation with craftsmanship. The tri-colour finish, pearl white, metallic black, and red, symbolizes the fusion of additive manufacturing and traditional race-car artistry.

According to Mike Tripp, Group Vice President of Toyota Marketing USA:

“Every SEMA project challenges our engineering and design teams to outdo themselves. Transforming a fully electric Toyota vehicle into a true race car was a monumental task. The bZ Time Attack Concept isn’t just visually stunning, it’s a tangible proof of performance.”

See It at SEMA 2025

The Toyota bZ Time Attack Concept will be on display from November 4–7, 2025, at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Central Hall, Booth 22200). It’s part of Toyota’s larger ‘Powered by Possibility’ showcase, featuring more than two dozen builds representing every powertrain : gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, hydrogen, and battery-electric.
