4Runner gets on-road TRD Sport trim
All 4Runners get full LED lighting for 2022
Toyota is expanding the 4Runner lineup for 2022 with a new TRD Sport model. The latest 4Runner will get larger wheels, a new hood scoop, and the model also showcases some of the changes found on all 2022 Toyota 4Runner models.
The TRD Sport trim is meant to go along with the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro trim levels, but, like the same grade on the Tacoma pickup, is intended to add some more style and on-pavement performance instead of giving the already capable model more off-road chops.
It starts with Toyota’s Cross-Linked Reactive Absorber System suspension, known as X-Reas. It’s like the version found on the Limited grade, and links the front left and rear right shock absorbers (and the same for front right and rear left) with a special free-piston absorber in the center. It’s designed to lessen diagonal pitch as well as roll and automatically adjust damping over bumpy surfaces. Here it’s a sport-tuned version of the system.
TRD Sport is based on the SR5 grade and comes with part-time 4×4 with low-range, and trades the SR5’s 17-inch wheels for 20-inch machine-faced wheels. The grille is body-colour, as are the rocker panels and the rest of the moulding, helping give the 4Runner a sleeker look. It also adds a TRD hood scoop, and front spoiler, and blakc roof rails.
On the inside, TRD Sport has Softex-trimmed seats (with heating up front) in black with a gray contrast stitch and gray TRD headrest logos.
For 2022, all 4Runner models get LED high beam lamps in addition to the LED low beams and fog lights. Toyota did not say when to expect the 2022 4Runner to arrive at dealers or give a price for the new trim level.
