It’ll be available alongside the 6-speed manual.
And it won’t be a CVT.
Toyota and the car community might be seeing more potential than ever in the hot new soon-to-be-revealed GR Corolla. Proof of this comes from the fact that Toyota is developing an automatic transmission for the turbocharged AWD hot-hatch.
And by cashing in, we are in part referring to the recently announced temporary death of the Subaru WRX STI, among other nuggets such as a standard included with the new Acura Integra.
According to Carsguide, the new transmission will be a conventional 8-speed automatic with a torque converter and not a dual-clutch unit. This transmission is also in the works for the smokin’ Toyota GR Yaris from which the GR Corolla will source most of its mechanicals.
A torque-converter automatic transmission will undoubtedly increase the GR Corolla’s reach to a broader audience on top of providing improved fuel efficiency all the while enabling effortless urban cruising.
The all-new Toyota GR Corolla is expected to be on sale by the end of 2022. An official reveal has yet to be announced but should be forthcoming.
