Toyota Officially Confirms $10 Billion in U.S. Investment, Opens Battery Plant in North Carolina

Two weeks ago, President Trump touted Toyota’s $10 billion investment without official confirmation. That’s now done.

  • Toyota commits $10B more to U.S. operations, raising total investment to $60B.

  • North Carolina battery plant represents $14B and up to 5,100 new jobs.

  • Facility supports Toyota’s local production and multi-pathway electrification strategy.

Toyota Motor Corporation will officially invest up to $10 billion in its United States operations over the next five years, bringing its cumulative investment in the country to nearly $60 billion. The company began U.S. operations nearly seven decades ago.

The announcement coincides with the official opening of Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina (TBMNC), the automaker’s first battery production facility outside Japan. Located in North Carolina, TBMNC becomes Toyota’s 11th manufacturing plant in the United States.

Established in 2021, the facility represents a total investment of nearly $14 billion and is expected to create up to 5,100 jobs. The plant will play a key role in Toyota’s electrification strategy by supplying batteries for a range of vehicles produced in North America.

Toyota describes the development as part of its “multi-pathway” approach to electrification and regional production. The strategy includes producing and investing locally to support local communities while offering a variety of electrified vehicle options.

Across its U.S. operations, Toyota employs approximately 50,000 workers and has manufactured over 35 million vehicles domestically. The company’s local manufacturing network now includes 11 plants spread across various states.

In Canada, Toyota employs more than 9,000 team members, and more than 11,000,000 vehicles have been assembled in its multiple facilities.
