Next Land Cruiser expected in 2024
Toyota’s big off-roader making North American return
Toyota is teasing the return of the Land Cruiser for the second time. This time it is showing off the model alongside a classic version of the model, and saying that it’s time to reinvent the model.
“With 65 years of heritage, you can choose to slow down or reinvent yourself. We chose the latter,” says the teaser text with a nod to the J40 generation of the SUV.
So else what can we tell about the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser? For a start, it looks like this is going to be closely related to the Lexus GX that was revealed last month. The upright roofline and rear glass areas are a near-match for the latest version of that off-roader. Previous versions of the GX were re-badged Land Cruiser Prado models, so this shouldn’t be much of a surprise.
Toyota refers to the new model as being “rugged” several times in its teasers, which means a TRD Pro off-road model is almost a guarantee. The Toyota will likely share a twin-turbo V6 powertrain with the GX, with the same system used in the Sequoia and Tundra meaning a hybrid is also very likely.
As far as availability, Toyota is saying only that it is “on the horizon.” But since the J40 Land Cruiser Toyota is comparing it to launched in 1960 and Toyota talks about 65 years of heritage, expect it to hit dealers in early 2024 as a 2025 model. We’ll let you know more as we get it.
