By all accounts, we’ll get to meet the new GR Corolla.
It’ll be powered by a 4-cylinder engine.
The car goes live Thursday night, March 31, at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
Toyota’s teased the coming of the compact boosted AWD GR Corolla for a while now. And we’re ready to finally get to see it ahead of driving it. Unlike the bonkers GR Yaris, the GR Corolla will come to North America.
Here’s a thought that recently crossed our minds: The new Subaru WRX STI had to die in order for the GR Corolla to live. As we know, Subaru and Toyota are comfortable bedfellows as they’ve co-developed cool sporty cars over the last decade. And perhaps, despite Subie’s comment about “meet the needs of the changing marketplace and the regulations and requirements for greenhouse gasses”, it was Toyota that suggested they get a crack at a real compact sports car in Canada and US for old times sakes…
We have no evidence to back this up but certainly, a new WRX STI would compete directly with the GR Corolla if they were both offered for sale. We are of course heavily speculating as no one yet knows for certain which new GR Sports Car Toyota is about to unveil.
