Toyota’s First Full EV Will Be An SUV For 2025

This electric SUV will be developed in partnership with Subaru – Toyota won’t say if it will come to North America

  • It will be RAV4-sized.

  • It will be assembled on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform.

  • A total of 10 zero-emission vehicles will be launched in Europe by 2025.

Toyota, known globally for its hybrid technology leadership, will soon join other automakers and deliver electric vehicles. The first full battery-electric vehicle will be an SUV for the European market that is expected to launch by 2025.

Toyota and EV Subaru partnership plans were announced last year however these two brands have been working hand in hand for more than 15 years. While there’s next to nothing known about the SUV at the moment, Toyota Europe sales and marketing chief, Matt Harrison, told Automotive News Europe (subscription required) that the SUV will go on sales “in a couple of years,” and that they are moving into launch mode for the vehicle.

This SUV will be the fifth of ten zero-emission vehicles for Europe between now and 2025. The 2nd-generation Mirai launches next year and will join the Toyota Proace City electric compact van developed in conjunction with PSA Group, and the Lexus UX 300e already on sale.

Toyota’s head of sales in North America, Bob Carter, has said that Toyota will join the EV party but is not specific make or model or segment.
