Compass gets new engine and transmission
More power and some extra safety features
For 2023 the Jeep Compass is getting a new engine. A 2.0L turbo-four is replacing the 2.4L Tigershark with more power and torque. Plus the Compass gets Jeep’s Active Drive 4×4 system standard and new driver assists.
The new 2.0L engine gives the 2023 Jeep Compass 200 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. Those are big upgrades over the 180 and 175 it offered last year. Along with the new engine, Jeep is dropping the six-speed auto and front-wheel drive system that it had offered on select trims. Now every Compass gets an eight-speed auto and Active Drive 4×4.
Jeep is making the changes just a year after a mid-cycle refresh on the compact model. Last year added a new 10.1-inch screen as an option, along with a completely new dash and a new nose with smaller LED headlights.
While every Jeep Compass gets 4×4 with Selec-Terrain drive modes, the Trailhawk goes one step further. It gives drivers a low-range transfer case and Trail Rated badge. The 20:1 crawl ratio is best in class and makes the little Jeep a serious off-roader.
Other changes include the addition of drowsy driver detection and rear seat reminders. New wheel designs for 2023 round out the changes, with 19-inch options available and various wheel finishes.
