Tuthill Porsche brings back one of the most iconic 911s in the form of the GT One

  • Only 22 customers will be able to buy the GT One.

  • Each car requires 3,500 hours of work.

The Porsche 911 is one of the most popular platforms for restomods nowadays. Success stories like Singer Automotive or Gunther Works – to name just these two – are multiplying and with the timeless state of the most iconic model from the German brand, you can expect a few more of these small companies capitalizing on this favorable situation.

One of the most recognized model from the 90’s era is the 911 GT1, a race car developed for the GT1 category. Back then, manufacturers were obligated to assemble a few street-legal versions of the race intended cars. This is why starting in the spring of 1997, Porsche started producing these very special 911s for its wealthiest customers.

But, at the Monterey Car Week, a British restomod firm specialized in 911, has taken every fan of the GT1 by surprise… well ever since it was captured at the Los Angeles International Airport a few days ago. Since this morning (April 16th), the latest creation from the company has now been made official on the interwebs.

Called GT One, this modern interpretation of the GT1 911 intends on seducing 22 customers, each car requiring up to 3,500 hours of work. The design of this new version of the long and low race car is from the California based designer Florian Flatau.

The body of the car is 100 % carbon fiber, while the mechanicals is based on a 4,0-liter flat-six engine with “over 500 bhp” from the normally aspirated option. Tuthill Porsche also offers a turbocharged option with “over 600 bhp”. And to illustrate the modernity of the project, customers can also order an easier dual-clutch 7-speed transmission if they want to avoid driving a 3-pedal car. For the purists, Tuthill will have a more traditional 6-speed manual transmission.

The race car origins of the GT1 are well represented in this GT One car with carbon ceramic brakes, wishbone suspension, and even a flat-surfaced underbody. And even if the cabin looks as luxurious as any newer 911, there is an FIA approved rollcage. Tuthill is even considering developing an optional aero package for those who intend to use the car in closed circuits. Even the famous tire brand Michelin is providing support with its Pilot Sport 4 S tire.

We don’t know the price of this wild 911, but clearly, it will be way more than what Porsche is asking for its priciest model. And with only 22 cars planned, it won’t be cheap.
