Two Chevrolet Silverado EVs Serve as a Power Plant for a Quebec Concert Tour

Setting up an outdoor stage without a generator rumbling behind the crowd, and without tapping into the grid, is rather unusual. Yet a music tour that made five stops across Quebec this summer pulled it off, with the batteries of two Chevrolet Silverado EV pickups and a 150-kWh storage trailer supplying every bit of power.

  • The free tour ran from August 15 to 22

  • The trucks powered the stage, while the trailer handled the kitchen

  • Not a single drop of diesel was burned along the way

Electrek reported the story, and its editor-in-chief, Fred Lambert, attended the Montreal finale. He also disclosed that his company, Ixian, helped design the trailer.

Music, Corn, and Kilowatt-Hours

Papillons, the Quebec company behind the Rechargéco fast-charging network, is behind the project. Dubbed “Le goût du paysage,” the event brought together singer-songwriters Émile Proulx-Cloutier and Dumas, along with chef Oli, who served up corn dishes made with local ingredients.

The stops: Trois-Pistoles, the Vallée Bras-du-Nord in Saint-Raymond, Parc Éco-Laurentides in Mont-Blanc, Île-aux-Castors in Berthierville, and a grocery store parking lot in Montreal’s Saint-Henri neighbourhood.

Outlets in the beds of the two Silverado EVs fed the sound system and lighting. As a reminder, GM’s electric pickup carries a 205-kWh battery and can deliver up to 10.2 kW of power, depending on the trim.

The kitchen, with its electric cooking units, ran off the trailer instead.

Silence Is Golden

Why go to all this trouble? Because most of the venues had no access to the grid.

Normally, organizers solve that problem with a noisy, polluting generator parked a few steps from the audience. For acoustic sets, it kills the mood.

By relying on battery power, recharged on Hydro-Québec’s grid, the whole exercise is considerably greener. The limiting factor remains each truck’s output, which is enough for a modest stage but perhaps not for a stadium show.

Still, it’s a convincing demonstration of just how useful and effective bidirectional charging can be.
