U.S. Dealers Warn ID. Buzz May Be Gone as VW Cancels 2026 Model

Volkswagen confirms it will skip the 2026 ID. Buzz in the U.S. as EV challenges persist.

  • Volkswagen halts U.S. production of the ID. Buzz for the 2026 model year.

  • Dealers reportedly tell customers current ID. Buzz inventory may be final availability.

  • VW plans for a potential 2027 return but gives no specifics on pricing or updates.

  • Canada will also see the Buzz pulled for the 2026 model year, to return for 2027.

Volkswagen will not produce a 2026 model-year ID. Buzz for the U.S. market, citing current electric vehicle market conditions as the reason for the pause. Before publishing, we reached out to Volkswagen Canada to see what we can expect in 2026. We’ll update as soon as we hear back from them.

The information was confirmed by a Volkswagen spokesperson, stating, “Following a careful assessment of current EV market conditions, we have made the strategic decision not to move forward with MY26 ID. Buzz production for the U.S. market.” The company added that the model remains a key product for the brand and is expected to return for the 2027 model year.

The statement follows reports that some Volkswagen dealers in the U.S. had informed customers that the ID. Buzz was being discontinued entirely. In one Reddit thread, a customer shared a message from a dealer claiming that no 2026 models would be produced and that current stock represents final availability.

Volkswagen U.S. refuted those claims, saying that the information was inaccurate: “We gave dealers this direction: The ID. Buzz continues to serve as an important halo product for the Volkswagen brand, and safeguarding its market presence remains a top priority.”

The company said the pause allows it to manage existing inventory more effectively and to focus dealer resources on selling 2025 model-year vehicles. “This approach allows us to focus our resources more effectively on current inventory and supporting your retail performance throughout the remainder of MY25, ensuring a strong foundation as we prepare for the MY27 transition next year,” the spokesperson said.

Volkswagen did not disclose what changes, if any, are planned for the 2027 version of the ID. Buzz, nor did it confirm whether that version is finalized for production.

Although the ID. Buzz is not officially cancelled in the U.S.; Volkswagen has not announced what will happen to the vehicle next. Current dealership communications and halted production suggest availability may remain limited until at least the 2027 model year.

Pricing, along with a rapidly declining interest in EVs, has proven to be a near-insurmountable obstacle for the ID. Buzz, as demonstrated by weaker-than-expected sales. In contrast, the original T2 Volkswagen Bus earned a reputation for affordability and simplicity, the ID. Buzz debuted in North America at higher prices than many consumers ($60,000 in the U.S. and over $80,000 in Canada) had anticipated.
